Waldorf University will be granting degrees to 748 graduates during its Commencement exercises May 6. This is a record number of graduates for Waldorf University, up from 495 last year.

鈥淲aldorf University is honored to recognize its graduates 鈥 both residential and online,鈥 said Waldorf University President Robert Alsop. 鈥淭hese students have worked hard to achieve their degrees and we are pleased to share this accomplishment with them. This is a monumental year in that this is the first class to graduate from Waldorf University and it is our largest 鈥 up over 50 percent from last year.鈥

Formerly known as Waldorf College, Waldorf University will be conferring degrees to 105 residential students and 643 online students, with 132 students participating in Commencement exercises. Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Arts degrees will be granted.

Graduation festivities begin with Baccalaureate on Saturday, May 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Commencement will then be held at 2 p.m. at the John K. and Luise V. Hanson Fieldhouse.听

Forest City native Dean Borg has been selected as this year鈥檚 Commencement speaker. Borg is a veteran Iowa journalist who has queried political figures on Iowa Public Television (IPTV) for more than four decades. Borg, who recently retired, holds the distinction of being the longest-serving program host in IPTV鈥檚 history, and was a fixture on 鈥淚owa Press鈥 since its first broadcast in 1971. His broadcast experience includes daily coverage of the Iowa General Assembly, news and documentary reports from South Vietnam and the Paris Peace Accords, moderating nationally televised presidential debates, and interviewing every president since John F. Kennedy.

Borg's honors include听the Iowa Broadcast News Association鈥檚 Jack Shelley Award, Iowa State University鈥檚听Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication鈥檚 Schwartz Award and the six-state Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association鈥檚 Charnley Award. ISU has also honored Borg with its Distinguished Achievement Citation, ISU鈥檚 highest award to alumni. Borg holds journalism and political science degrees from Iowa State University and The University of Iowa.
